Boswell Mourot Fine Art opens an exhibition tonight of work by Korean folk artist Hye-Young Go. The artist works in what is called the minhwa traditional style of Korean colored painting, but with a contemporary spin. Here's a bit more about minwha:
As a traditional colorful folk painting, it refers to the Korean folk paintings that portray various subjects, such as animals, beautiful flowers, trees, birds, shelves with books, and other daily objects in the lives of Korean commoners. They are the artistic expressions of individuals who drew paintings to decorate homes and to celebrate joyful family occasions, such as weddings and sixtieth birthdays. In addition, the desire to live a long, healthy, and prosperous life with many children is reflected in the paintings. This style of paintings was mostly drawn by the general public and through people’s demands. Therefore, Minhwa is much related to the lives of the people.
A reception tonight from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. opens the show at the gallery, 5815 Kavanaugh Blvd.
