A New York Times editorial summarizes what's befallen somewhat progressive North Carolina since Republicans took control of both the executive and legislative branch. Dismantling the social safety net — ending unemployment compensation, for example — is just part of it. Vote suppression and more is part of the now-familiar GOP agenda.
Slashed spending includes cuts to pre-K programs. If and when Arkansas Republicans can follow the North Carolina model — though we don't have so far to fall as North Carolina, once propelled by significant research and science advancements — wonder if the pre-K programs here will be hurt. I bet a reprieve will be extended to the Republican legislators who have pockets lined by taxpayer money and who also use their kiddie profit centers to proselytize their brand of fundamentalist religion.
