Former state Treasurer Martha Shoffner will be arraigned before a federal magistrate at 10 this morning on an expanded set of charges filed after she backed out of a plea bargain on the original charge in the case that she took money from a securities dealer in return for state business.
She had tried to waive the appearance and haver attorney Chuck Banks file a not guilty plea without an appearance, but the magistrate ordered her to appear.
UPDATE: Fox 16 reports she pleaded not guilty, as expected, and a trial date was set July 29 before Judge Leon Holmes.
Afterward, she said she looks forward to going to trial.
