Entergy announced this afternoon that Unit 2 of the Arkansas Nuclear One generating station near Russellville was reconnected to the grid at 3 p.m. Sunday. It shut down March 31 when a lift carrying a replacement stator collapsed and dropped the heavy component in the turbine building. Said the news release: "Since that time the unit has undergone extensive evaluations involving multiple third-party experts to ensure the safe and reliable operation of the plant before being brought online."
The accident occurred when Unit 1 was being refueled. Entergy said damage evaluaton and repair and refueling will take more time.
The company said there was no release of radiation or harm to public safety as a result of the accident. One worker was killed and eight others were injured.
