BERNIE WORRELL ORCHESTRA
8 p.m. Revolution. $10 adv., $15 day of.
That former child prodigy Bernie Worrell cut his teeth as the original keyboardist for Parliament/Funkadelic — providing the deep, infectious synth groove on some of the biggest hits of the late-'70s and early-'80s, including "Mothership Connection (Star Child),""Flash Light," and "Aqua Boogie"— should tell you something about what you can expect from his appearance with the nine-piece Bernie Worrell Orchestra at Revolution this Sunday.
They're hot off several appearances at SXSW in Austin, and sound great. My favorite track I've heard so far is "BWO is Landing," a funky, bubbly piece that seems ripped from the soul charts circa 1976, with lotsa cowbell, bongo drums, a tight and well-used horn section and plenty of Worrell's innovative work at the keyboard.
Come on out and catch a living legend.
